Complementary Therapies

All our sessions are aimed and adapted to support the needs
of carers and patients after surgery or treatment, to enhance wellbeing and self management.

The following therapies have been modified for use in Supportive and Palliative Cancer Care. Please inform the therapist of any doubts you may have regarding your medical history. It is advisable to wait at least 3 days between complementary therapy sessions, with the exception of Reiki, which works well in conjunction with other therapies.

This therapy is based on the theory that particular areas of the feet are related to different parts of the body. By applying gentle pressure to these points, the different body ‘systems’ can be gently rebalanced. It has the advantage that some painful areas of the body can still be treated through the feet rather than directly on the area. Please note: Reflexology is not suitable for anyone with phlebitis or deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the arms or legs.

Reiki Healing

Reiki means Universal Life force Energy in Japanese. Reiki can be used alongside other therapies to help and support you. It is a gentle therapy, which may promote better health and may give a feeling of well-being. The therapist moves their hands either with a light touch or no touch at all (if preferred) over the body at short intervals

Massage involves the use of hands to manipulate the soft tissue of the body, particularly muscles. It can be used for relaxation, stimulation or rehabilitation of the whole body or parts of the body. It promotes suppleness of the muscles, improves circulation and reduces stress. It is beneficial to all body systems and is a natural and effective way to treat both physical conditions and psychological problems.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage (IHM) is a relaxing treatment concentrating on massaging the head, which also includes the shoulders, neck and face. IHM helps to bring a feeling of calmness, well-being and relaxation, and may help alleviate stress, tension and insomnia. It may also help to relieve neck and shoulder stiffness. You will be seated in a chair and you do not need to remove any clothing.
